I refer to it as a fishbowl with everyone looking on. Rahm's comment was insensitive. However, I do believe in accepting apologies as long as they are sincere. I can think of a dozen other reasons that Rahm should resign, not the least of which is pursuing a health care policy that most citizens have deemed an overreach into their private lives. Palin should graciously accept the apology and move on. She will find herself needing to apologize for a statement or two along the way. I think even young numbskulls like Reid knows what she stands for, so the cheap shots are unnecessary. Also, it is does make me think the word "numbskull" is appropriate when applied to people who can't tell the difference between someone SAYING something, and someone REPEATING it satirically to make fun of the person who said it in the first place. That's not rocket science. That being said, the whole thing is ridiculous and should not have generated this much controversy, unless you want to take RE to task for having such a foul mouth. This business of the use of a specific word offending people borders on insanity, and yes I include the "n-word" in that depiction; after all, it's on every other rap album already. I hear that the American Psychiatric Association or some such organization wants to change the term from "mentally retarded" to "intellectually challenged" or some such thing. This is stupid (hope that word doesn't offend anyone). Here's why: "mentally retarded" means intellectually challenged. Why is one phrase offensive and the other not? How long before snotty little schoolkids start coming up with alternative slurs to "retard" -- "disabe" or "intellitard" or who knows? Kids are creative. Then we can ban THAT phrase and come up with another one. The whole thing is... retarded. Palin is not without a platform.
