Bicyclist struck on Adams

A student was struck by a vehicle while riding her bike across Adams Boulevard north of the University Park Campus Monday morning, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The female student was crossing Adams Boulevard while traveling southbound at 8:07 a.m. on Portland Street when she was hit.

She was transported to California Hospital shortly after the accident for treatment, said DPS Capt. David Carlisle. Her condition was not known at the time of publication.

The student did not yield to traffic before crossing, Carlisle said.

“The student was wearing headphones and talking on a cell phone and entered the intersection,” he said.

The Los Angeles Police Department is currently conducting a traffic collision investigation.

It saddens me to read this type of article as a fellow biker. However I do feel that bikers have a responsibility to “operate their vehicles ” cautiously and adhere to the rules of the road, the same has other vehicles. I also feel that wreckless or uncourteous behavior on bikes is increasing around and throughout our campus. I hope that this issue is addressed at some point to prevent further accidents from happening.
