This year Bateman was one of 30 candidates to be nominated for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the award focuses on four areas — community, classroom, character and competition.

The candidates include nine AVCA All-Americans and eight honorable mention All-Americans from last season.

Midway through the regular season, the 30 candidates will be placed on a ballot and narrowed to 10 finalists.

Lowe’s, an official corporate sponsor of the NCAA, will announce the award winner during the 2011 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship in San Antonio in mid-December.

Last year Bateman was named to the AVCA All-America second team, recording 1,567 assists, which was the second-highest single-season total in USC history. She also led the Pac-10 in assists per set.

Along with senior outside hitter Alex Jupiter and senior middle blocker Lauren Williams, Bateman played an instrumental role in leading the Women of Troy to a Final Four appearance against California.

With 3,115 career assists, Bateman has the opportunity to set the USC career record. She currently trails all-time leader Janice Mounts.
