USC coach Lane Kiffin filled two openings on his coaching staff with the hiring of Scottie Hazelton and Marvin Sanders on Sunday.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Hazelton, formerly the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for North Dakota State, will replace Joe Barry as linebackers coach, and Sanders, Florida Atlantic’s defensive coordinator, will step in as the new defensive backs coach.
Barry left USC two weeks ago after a two-year stint to join the San Diego Chargers staff as linebackers coach, while USC’s previous defensive backs coach, Willie Mack Garza, resigned the day before the 2011 season. Graduate assistant Sammy Knight served as interim defensive backs coach.
The only vacant position on the football staff is receivers’ coach, which opened up when Ted Gilmore left after one season to fill the same position for the Oakland Raiders.
