Practice held after shootings

Though a shooting outside the Ronald Tutor Campus Center on Wednesday night placed the University Park Campus on lockdown, USC continued its previously scheduled Thursday morning workout at Howard Jones Field.

The shooting, which left four persons wounded, including one in critical condition, occurred outside a Halloween party known as “Freak or Greek.” The event was held in the ballroom of the Campus Center.

When asked during his post-practice news conference if players attended the party, USC coach Lane Kiffin said, “What I know, they were not.”

Less than 12 hours after the shooting occurred, though, Kiffin declined to comment further.

“I really don’t have enough facts on the situation to make any other comments about it,” he said. “I think they’re still gathering all the information, so I can’t really talk any more about it, just because of a lack of information.”

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the individual in critical condition at California Hospital Medical Center was Geno Hall, a decorated former cornerback at nearby Crenshaw High School.

Two current USC players, sophomore linebacker Hayes Pullard and sophomore guard Marcus Martin, were teammates with Hall at Crenshaw.

“We’ll want to know all the information about it,” Kiffin added. “We’ve been in meetings all morning, since 6 this morning. So when the time comes, I’m sure that they’ll inform me.”
