Marshall receives $15 million gift

On Tuesday, it was announced that USC Trustee Thomas J. Barrack Jr. and his family have donated a $15 million dollar gift to the USC Marshall School of Business.

The donation will both renovate a current Marshall Building and “significantly advance” the global mission of the school, according to a press release.

“The Barrack family’s exceptionally generous gift will bolster our Marshall School of Business and its faculty and students, and revitalize one of the school’s key facilities for generations to come,” said President C. L. Max Nikias in a press release. “We warmly applaud the family’s philanthropic vision.”

The facility in mention is Bridge Hall, which, built in 1928, served as the first building of the Marshall School of Business.

A USC alumnus, Barrack received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the university in 1969. He went on to attend the USC Gould School of Law where he was the editor of the Southern California Law Review.

Currently, Barrack is the founder and CEO of the one of the world’s largest private equity real estate firms, Colony Capital LLC.
