Easy workouts offer simple way to prepare for summer


Let’s be honest: spring holiday treats and sweets are almost impossible to resist. With summer quickly approaching, that means bikini season is right around the corner. Anyone in need of relatively effective exercises in a short length of time should try the following workouts. Just crank up the volume on your Coachella or Stagecoach playlist and get moving. In no time, your body will be ready for those crochet crop tops and high-waisted shorts.

Warm Up:

Lunge Sequence

-Stand with your feet hip-width apart with arms down.

-Bend at the waist and walk hands out on the ground, into a plank.

-Raise your right foot and plant it just outside your right hand.

-Pause, and then return to plank.

-Repeat with your left foot once. Do six repetitions.

Toning Time:

Superman Lifts

(targets abs and back)

-Lie on your stomach, engage your abs and extend your arms out in front of you.

-Lift arms, legs, and chest off the floor while counting to 10.

-Slowly release and repeat 20 times.

Tricep Press

(targets shoulders, triceps, chest, abs and legs)

-Start on the floor on all fours.

-Extend the right leg behind you at hip level.

-Press down and lower chest toward the floor while keeping arms close to your body. Press back up.

-Repeat two times and then switch legs.

Next Level:

Side Plank Leg Lifts

-Start in a side plank position, with your right hand and outside edge of the right foot against the floor.

-Raise yourself while keeping your spine straight and abs engaged; rest the upper hand on your upper hip.

-Slowly lift the left leg up just higher than your hip and then slowly bring it back down.

Squat Hop

-Stand with feet at hip width and squat until butt is just above knees.

-Press through the heels and jump, raising your arms above your head.

-Thrust down as you land.

-Continue for 20 seconds. Rest for 10 seconds.
