Campus fire leaves at least one injured

A university van used by the Spirit of Troy marching band caught fire on Saturday night outside Stonier Hall, leaving at least one person injured. The incident is still under investigation by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

According to USC Dept. of Public Safety Deputy Chief Johnnie Adams, the investigation has been taken over by the LAFD Arson Unit. From pictures taken at the scene, Adams said that the white university van appears to be totaled, with the interior being fully gutted and the exterior suffering damage as well.

Adams also said that a suspect of interest was taken from the scene to a local hospital after suffering burns.

“He was taken in that evening,” Adams said. “It is unknown if he was taken into formal custody or not.”

According to LAFD spokesman Erik Scott, a 911 call was received at 10:06 p.m. and once the firefighters arrived on scene they were able to completely extinguish the fire.

Scott said the incident was still under investigation and could not comment on whether there are any suspects, citing it as a police matter.
