The No. 2 women’s golf team opened its season at the Annika Intercollegiate in Orlando, Florida, with a 23-stroke victory. The team shot a school-best 36-under while junior Karen Chung took home the individual title, shooting 12-under.

The Women of Troy had four golfers in the top seven to win at 36-under 828. That was just five strokes shy of the NCAA record of 41-under.

“What an incredible record-breaking performance by our team,” head coach Andrea Gaston said. “It’s exciting to kick off our season this way. The Trojans were blessed with three incredible days, and I’m really proud of them.”

Chung just beat freshman teammate Robynn Ree, who took second at 10-under 206, to earn her third career collegiate title at 12-under 204, the second-lowest  54-hole total in USC history.

“Starting off the season winning by 23 strokes is pretty spectacular,” Chung said. “I can’t wait to go play in our next event.”

The Women of Troy will look to win their third consecutive Windy City Collegiate Classic on Oct. 5 and 6.
