Miike Snow’s preview of new album will enchant fans

The fans have been calling, and Miike Snow has finally answered. After three years of silence, the Swedish-American pop trio released new music with their single “Heart is Full.” True to their genre-blending style band, members Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg and Andrew Wyatt have created something beautifully chaotic.

The track starts off sampling soul vocals, which are placed throughout the three-minute song. Then the auto-tuned vocals of band members are infused with a drum loop to give it a
pop-rock sound. These competing aesthetics meld together to create a catchy beat.

Lyrically, the song is nothing special. In the chorus alone, the group croons “My heart is full of you” four times. After about three verses, the phrase becomes a little overplayed. Furthermore, it lacks the poetic storytelling of their previous hits, which takes away from the sound Miike Snow had curated with songs such as “Silvia” and “Animals.”

However, the production is incredibly unique and has left fans completely questioning the tone of the new album. The dark use of drums and the hazy vocals is certainly a departure from the dancey beat behind “Animal,” which is perhaps their most
well-known song. There is definitely more electronic undertones, but it will ultimately remain true to their dark pop sound.

This new album has been a long time coming. In April of this year, the group began to post odd images on the Facebook page captioned, “Something’s coming …” before returning to silence. However, as promised they again took to social media to announce their upcoming album writing, “We know you’ve been waiting … our new track ‘Heart is Full’ is coming soon. Stay Tuned.” And the fans patiently awaited.

The album’s release date still remains a mystery, but it is speculated to become available from late 2015 to early 2016. The group worked on it while traveling between New York, Los Angeles and Stockholm. These three distinct cities are sure to have significant influence over the sound and inspiration for each song. In an interview with Consequence of Sound, Winnberg stated that the album is “the most innovative and creatively unified work thus far.”

Having stepped out of the spotlight as soon as they reemerged, Miike Snow is the ultimate tease. Be on the lookout for their newest album and listen to “Heart Is Full.” There is a unique combination of new and old elements in the track, which is sure to please both their cult following and new listeners.
