Organized experiment causes small explosion in Tutor Hall

A small explosion occurred in Ronald Tutor Hall Tuesday evening due to an assistant research professor and his peers mixing chemicals. No one was hurt.

The Los Angeles Fire department said the partners were conducting an organized experiment in the building’s basement laboratory.

According to LAFD the building shook, but suffered no structural damage.

No fire broke out from the accidental blast.

Tutor Hall was evacuated and examined by a hazard task force and firefighters. Fire officials say the building only suffered minor flooding due to the reaction’s flash activating the automatic sprinkler system inside.
