We all know and love the top 40 musical artists on the radio. They have a certain pop-savvy vibe that really hits home with almost every listener. However, there are also artists that are many people skim over when shuffling through their Spotify playlists. Here are seven contemporary underrated artists that deserve a listen.

  1. James Bay

This British singer-songwriter just had a radio hit with his haunting “Let it Go,” but he has yet to really create a strong following after some time. Why you should listen? His incredible vocals and stripped down performances sound raw and real with the power to move you to tears.

  1. Grimes

This Canadian artist is like a more refined Lady Gaga. Her ethereal voice and looks give a dichotomy to her girly-grunge rebel music. She is truly an artist with a thoroughly interesting vibe that connects with just about anyone.

  1. Azaelia Banks

This soulful siren will be singing at Coachella in just a few weeks and is a definite must-see. She is a self-taught musician with so much talent in communicating emotion, her work holistic masterpieces.

  1. Kygo

For all fans of electronic music, Kygo should be a breath of fresh air for you. His deep house and tropical house mixes involve fun lyrics, top vocalists and low, tropical bass. His music has been playing at various places but he doesn’t seem to be a frontrunner in the EDM world quite yet.

  1. Die Antwoord

If you want a little fun and crazy, this South African duo definitely brings it. They are a bit over the edge, but they bring a rebellion to the pop music world that defies many genres traditional notions of music. Their songs are upbeat, unique and dynamic, the kind that will lift you up almost instantly.

  1. The Disco Fries

Another EDM duo, this group is actually fairly well known. They are associated with Tiesto and have gathered a substantial following within the EDM world in the last year. However, they are still grossly underrated and have yet to make huge headway as a household electronic name.

  1. Jess Glynne

This female vocalist is often associated with Clean Bandit’s radio hit “Rather Be.” This artist has one of the most unique voices I’ve ever heard that it’s a wonder she isn’t one of the top female vocalists currently. Give some of her songs a listen, and you’ll be stunned by her slightly raspy and metallic voice that perfectly captures every song she sings.
