‘Parenthood’ makes light of family matters

For those of you who want a break from the fashion-obsessed, relationship-crazy lives on Gossip Girl (or for those who aren’t really feeling the detective mysteries anymore), then you should tune in to NBC’s Parenthood.

The new television show, which airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m., is loosely based on Ron Howard’s 1989 film of the same title. With it, both Howard and Friday Night Lights executive producer Jason Katims have introduced a unique twist to prime time television.

Parenthood defies the typical repetitive sitcoms that most people find themselves guilty of watching. But there will be no regrets for Parenthood viewers. With its humorous script and impressive cast, the show lightens the mood for those awkward and quirky moments between parent and child. Being a dramady, Parenthood is one of the most touching, sweet and at times sad shows that has been on the air in a long time.

The series, like the movie, revolves around the lives of four siblings and their individual families. Dealing with being a single parent, balancing work and family life and maintaining healthy relationships are some of the storylines that compose this show.

Not to mention Parenthood sports a great cast. Gilmore Girls’ Lauren Graham plays a drastically different mother figure, one who doesn’t quite know how to deal with her rebellious children. Peter Krause from Six Feet Under plays a very caring husband, brother and father who must deal with his son’s Asperger’s syndrome. Dax Shepard, one of the siblings who lacks responsibility, Krause’s worrisome wife played by Monica Potter and the father of the four siblings, Craig T. Nelson, also largely contribute to the show’s quality.

You will be taken in by the comfortable chemistry between the cast, as well as the relatable story lines. Discover for yourself how great Parenthood truly is.
