Former Trojan RB Bush to be stripped of Heisman

After a ruinous offseason for the USC football program, things finally seemed to be picking up for the Trojans as they snagged their first win Thursday night in Hawaii.

But along with today’s gloomy weather came news that former USC running back Reggie Bush will officially be stripped of his Heisman Trophy from the 2005 season — another chunk gone from the Pete Carroll era.

Yahoo! Sports reported that unnamed cited sources close to the Heisman Trophy Trust will take away the trophy before the end of September, after the NCAA finishes up its investigation regarding Bush’s eligibility during his playing days with the Trojans.

In June, the NCAA ruled Bush ineligible to play during the 2004-2005 season during which time he received improper benefits — USC also had to vacate all wins from that season. The university had already removed Bush’s trophy from Heritage Hall.

If the sources are correct, he will become the first player to be stripped of the prestigious award in its 75-year history.
