The No. 1 women’s golf team closed out a 4-1 semifinal victory over Baylor at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday and followed it with a 4-1 win over Duke to clinch the first-ever East Lake Cup in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Women of Troy captured their second first-place finish of the year in four fall events.

Senior Kyung Kim won her match Monday night while freshman Robynn Ree, junior Gabriella Then and junior Tiffany Chan clinched wins Tuesday. Junior Karen Chung was the lone Woman of Troy to fall to Baylor.

Chung redeemed her semifinal loss with a win over her Duke opponent in the final match. Kim, Then and Chan won as well, while Ree dropped her match to Duke.

The Women of Troy will not play again until Feb. 7 at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

The men’s team defeated LSU 4-1 in the third-place match of the East Lake Cup after falling 4-1 to Illinois in the semifinals.

Freshman Justin Suh, sophomore Sean Crocker, junior Rico Hoey and sophomore Jonah Texeira all tallied wins over LSU to propel the Trojans to a third-place finish in Atlanta.

“Even though we were in the consolation match, it was nice to redeem ourselves with LSU,” Hoey said. “We didn’t show them what we were capable of at nationals, so it was good to play to our potential today and get a win.”

The Trojans will play again on Feb. 4 at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
