USC begins three-game tourney at home

The No. 16 USC women’s volleyball team (2-1) is looking to extend its winning streak to three games tonight against Florida Gulf Coast (1-2) as USC kicks off its home portion of the 2009 schedule at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn LA City Center Trojan Invitational in the Galen Center.

After dropping their first match of the season last week to Michigan State in five sets, the Women of Troy rebounded to sweep North Carolina and Albany and end the Michigan State Tournament on a high note last Saturday.

Following tonight’s game, the Women of Troy will take on No. 21 Pepperdine (3-0) tomorrow at 7 p.m. and Northern Arizona (1-2) Saturday at 10 a.m.

Pepperdine is undefeated on the season after sweeping the Colorado State Asics Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., last weekend with wins over then-No. 24 Colorado State, Cal Poly and Oregon State. USC leads the all-time season series between the two teams, 36-8.

Northern Arizona defeated Boise State and lost to Cal State Northridge and Tulsa last weekend in Boise, Idaho. This is also the first-ever meeting in women’s volleyball between USC and Northern Arizona.
