“Tea Party” rallies in Beverly Hills

Supporters of the tea party movement rallied in Beverly Hills Sunday to protest the Obama administration’s stance on a variety of issues ranging from illegal immigration to race relations.

The rally was organized by singer and actor Pat Boone and featured conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart as one of about a dozen speakers. Others included film industry professionals as well as local religious and political leaders. The speeches consistently criticized the current administration as well as the mainstream media for allegedly having a liberal bias.

Among those in the crowd were actress Alana Stewart and former Saturday Night Live cast member Victoria Jackson. The majority of those present at the rally tended to be older, although the Bruin Republicans, a political student organization from UCLA, set up a fundraising booth selling “capitalism cupcakes”.

“It’s hard to find support for Republicans on the Westside,” Anneliese Mondorf, one of the members of the Bruin Republicans, said to the Los Angeles Times.
