New styles debut at Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week is well under way, and two collections this week especially caught our eye.

Dsquared² featured a mix of boyish and sexy looks, from the basics — khakis and Bermuda shorts — to more lavish looks such as crystal embellished sweaters and hot pants. The designers, Dean and Dan Caten (identical twins, hence Dsquared²), struck an impressive balance between preppy and glamorous. Many of the looks included sleek button downs and classic cardigans. Flat oxfords, fedoras and sunglasses accessorized a majority of the looks as well.

Roberto Cavalli’s collection created a very different but nonetheless inspiring show, focused on an island environment with wild jungle plants to set the stage for his runway. He featured crochet and lace leggings, frilly tops, cropped jackets and a variety of cutout pieces. Animal skins and fringe were another of his specialties for this upcoming season, as he merged boho and rock ‘n’ roll styles, perfect for spring.

For those of us who weren’t able to jet off to Milan for Fashion Week, coverage can be found in both The New York Times and Los Angeles Times.
