Youth vote lacking in midterm elections

Youth did not play a huge role in this year’s nationwide midterm elections compared to previous years, only accounting for 9 percent of voters, according to CBS News and The Huffington Post.

Only half of the youth voters who voted in 2008 — 18 percent — also voted in this year’s midterm election, CBS reports.

Additionally, the 58 percent of youth who did vote only voted for Democratic candidates, according to The Huffington Post.

However, it seems that the low turnout was anticipated, since Rock the Vote reported to The Huffington Post that only half the students they polled said they would even vote in the midterm elections.
