Tyler Perry to play Alex Cross in upcoming film

Since the first movie adaption of James Patterson’s novel Along Came a Spider in 2001, the series has stayed alive both through new novels and films.

The newest film adaptation, however, will have quite a twist. Instead of the distinctly deep-voiced Morgan Freeman playing the ever-busy, bad-guy-fighting detective Alex Cross, Tyler Perry will portray the character. The role will the be the first one in which Perry does not appear in his own film. What’s more, the character of Alex Cross does not call for an outlandishly comic wig or costume of any sort.

The movie will be directed by Rob Cohen, known for films such as The Fast and the Furious and The Mummy:Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The collaboration between the two will undoubtedly provide a new twist on the suspenseful, psychologically deep stories of Alex Cross. It might also prove that Tyler Perry can step outside his comfort zone and prove his acting skills.
