1966 remake of Fantastic Voyage set to begin

According to Hollywood industry blog Deadline Hollywood, 20th Century Fox has chosen Shawn Levy to direct its remake of the 1966 science fiction film Fantastic Voyage.

Produced by James Cameron, the film will be a CGI and 3D reinterpetration of the journey of shrunken scientists travelling through the human body.

Levy has some very commercially successful remakes already under his belt, such as Cheaper by the Dozen and The Pink Panther. Most known for the Ben Stiller family film Night at the Museum, however, one will have to wonder how he will reimagine the campy classic.

Levy’s last film, Real Steel, is still in post production, and features Hugh Jackman in an action-packed role as a boxing trainer in a future that pits giant humanoid robots against one another in elaborate battles. The release date has been set for October of this year.

According to the same Deadline report, Levy was approached after directors Darren Aranofsky, Timur Bekmambetov, Jonathan Mostow and Louis Leterrier, who helmed Black Swan, Wanted, Surrogates and Clash of the Titans respectively.

No release date has been announced for Fantastic Voyage.
