Clay Matthews, Packers win Super Bowl XLV

All eyes were fixated on Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Sunday, as the Green Bay Packers faced the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, becoming the most watched Super Bowl in NFL history.

Aaron Rodgers, who was later named the game’s MVP, led the Packers with three touchdown passes, defeating the Steelers 31-25 to record the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl championship and first since 1997.

The win marked Rodgers’ first Super Bowl title win, but also carried some significance for some former USC players.

Starting at linebacker for Green Bay, Clay Matthews, a former walk-on for the Trojans, finished with three tackles and proved instrumental in the waining moments.

As the Steelers were trying to mount a comeback during the fourth quarter, Matthews created a forced fumble from Rashard Mendenhall that subsequently turned into a touchdown, extending Green Bay’s lead to 11.

Matthews also finished second in the voting for defensive player of the year.

Former USC running back Chad Morton is also a special teams assistant for the Packers.
