GPSS launches discounted Metro TAP cards for grad students

USC’s Graduate and Professional Student Senate, in partnership with USC Transportation and Los Angeles County Metro, has launched a program that provides discounted Metro TAP cards to full-time graduate students. A launch party took place at The Lab Gastropub on Oct. 20.

Typically, Metro TAP cards for students cost about $75 for 9 weeks. Under the new partnership, they’re available for $25, valid through to Dec.17, 2011. The arrangement includes an unlimited number of trips on the on Metro Bus and Rail, Metro Rapid and Metro Liner.

Prior to this program, Metro TAP cards required students to be enrolled for a minimum of 12 units. However, graduate students typically take only 8-10 units in a semester, and professional students only three. The new program has no such eligibility criteria and is available to all graduate students who are enrolled full-time at USC.

The card can be applied for at the USC Transportation website. It is reusable for several semesters and can also be used as a regular Metro pass after graduation.
