The following incidents were reported in the USC Dept. of Public Safety incident summary on Tuesday, April 17.

Crimes against property

At 2:44  p.m., two students reported a phone and a pair of sunglasses missing outside of the USC area.

At 12:50  p.m., retail unit officers monitoring surveillance cameras in the Pertusati University Bookstore observed a suspect remove a backpack from a rack and place it over his shoulder.  The officers detained the suspect when he exited the store without paying for the item and DPS officers were requested.  Officers responded and took custody of the suspect. He was arrested and transported to 77th station for booking.

Miscellaneous incidents

At 5:50 p.m., DPS officers responded to the Belle D. Vivian YWCA Building at the request of a counselor who reported that a student was in need of an escort to a medical center for psychiatric evaluation.  The officers transported the student to the facility and released her into the care of staff on the premises.

At 4:00 p.m., DPS officers responded to a non-USC male who was reported to be suffering a stroke.  A Rapid Response team was at the scene examining the male when the officers arrived at Keck Hospital of USC and he was subsequently transported within the facility for medical treatment.

At 2:34 p.m., a staff member reported that a roll-up gate at the Exposition Boulevard parking structure lowered and struck her vehicle as she was passing under it, damaging the front of her vehicle.

At 12:00 a.m., DPS officers and LAFD Unit #15 responded to a first-floor fire alarm that was accidentally activated by a student leaning  against a pull station in the School of Cinematic Arts.  No smoke or fire was found.  LAFD reset the alarm and cleared the building for re-entry

At 12:00 a.m., DPS officers and LAFD Unit #15 responded to a first-floor fire alarm activation at La Sorbonne Apartments due to unknown cause.  No smoke or fire was found.  LAFD reset the alarm and cleared the building for re-entry.
