The following incidents were reported in the USC Department of Public Safety crime/incident summary between Friday, June 8, and Monday, June 11.

Crimes against a person

At 4:00 p.m. on June 10,  a suspect approached a juvenile who was seated on a bicycle outside 1335 35th St. and grabbed hold of the handle bars. The suspect began searching the juvenile’s pockets and a struggle ensued when he removed a set of keys. The juvenile fell to the ground and the suspect slapped him in the face repeatedly before walking away with the keys. The suspect was detained by DPS officers who responded to the scene and he was subsequently arrested and transported to the Southwest station for booking.

At 4:39 a.m. on June 10, a suspect tore open a window screen at 1016 23rd St. and was confronted by a resident as he attempted to gain entry. The suspect then fled on foot and could not be located during a subsequent search of the area by DPS officers.

At 7:25 p.m. on June 9, two suspects approached a non-USC male from behind while he was walking through the parking lot at St. John’s Church; one of them punched him in the face. The male fell to the ground and one of the suspects demanded his money. The suspect then forcibly removed currency from the male’s pockets and walked away with the second suspect. The male did not report the incident at the time it occurred, so DPS officers were unable to conduct a search for the suspects.

At 11:41 a.m. on June 9, DPS officers responded to a non-USC male who was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Exposition Boulevard and Trousdale Parkway. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to check on the male’s condition or identify himself, but witnesses were able to obtain the vehicle license plate number and gave it to LAPD officers who responded to conduct a traffic investigation. The male sustained an injury to his arm and an LAFD unit transported him to California Hospital for medical treatment.

At 10:43 p.m. on June 8, a student was cited to Judicial Affairs for throwing a beer bottle at a DPS officer at Sigma Alpha Epsilon and providing false information to the officers who detained him for questioning.

Crimes against property

At 3:25 p.m. on June 11, a suspect reached through a vending machine dispenser door in John Stauffer Science Lecture Hall and removed snack items from the lower shelves by manipulating the security door.

At 1:37 p.m. on June 11, it was reported that a suspect removed a tan 2000 Cadillac DeVille that was parked outside Olympic Gardens.

At 8:39 A.m. on June 11, it was reported that a suspect used unknown means to gain entry to a storage room and removed a vacuum from  Popovich Hall.

At 8:24 p.m. on June 10,  a student reported that a suspect removed her unattended purse from a laundry room at Troy Hall and subsequently used a credit card inside it to make several unauthorized purchases.

At 5:42 p.m. on June 10, DPS officers responded to a report of a suspect driving a vehicle near Adams Boulevard and Orchard Street that was identified as stolen. The officers began following the vehicle and the driver was detained during a felony traffic stop by LAPD officers who joined the pursuit. Further investigation revealed that the driver had purchased the vehicle from a suspect who obtained it by fraudulent means, and she was subsequently released. The vehicle was then impounded ;and LAPD detectives will continue the investigation.

At 9:49 a.m. on June 10, DPS officers responded to a report of a suspect eating snacks and drinking beverages inside the market at the Mobil gas station without paying for them. The officers detained the suspect and turned him over to LAPD officers who responded to the scene.

At 4:45 p.m. on June 9, a non-USC male reported that the rear passenger side fender, front passenger side door and the hood were dented and scratched while his vehicle was parked at the Exposition Boulevard Parking Structure.

Miscellaneous incidents

At 3:48 p.m. on June 11, DPS officers responded to a staff member who was suffering from an allergic reaction to her prescription medication at Bridge Memorial Hall. An LAFD RA unit was requested. The unit examined the staff member and offered transportation for medical treatment, but she declined and was released at the scene.

At 5:01 p.m. on June 11, DPS officers responded to a non-USC female complaining of difficulty breathing, chest pains and dizziness at the Keck Hospital of USC. A rapid response team was at the scene examining the female when the officers arrived and she was subsequently transported within the facility for medical treatment.

At 1:38 p.m. on June 10, DPS officers responded to a report of an unknown odor inside a room at the Ronald Tutor Hall of Engineering and upon their arrival they detected a faint electrical smell. LAFD was requested, but the smell had dissipated before they arrived and the source could not be located. All units then cleared the scene without further incident.

At 4:06 a.m. on June 9, DPS officers responded to a report of a suspect prowling around vehicles parked in the alley behind Belaire Apartments and detained him for investigation. The suspect was released at the scene after the officers found no evidence of a crime having been committed, but a short time later a vehicle was located with pry marks on the passenger side door. No property was removed.

At 7:12 p.m. on June 8, DPS officers on routine patrol observed a suspect lying on the grass outside Century Apartments and detained her for investigation. The suspect appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and the officers found her in possession of two glass pipes containing possible drug residue. A check of the suspect’s name also revealed an outstanding warrant. The suspect was then arrested and transported to 77th station for booking.
