ZBT raises most funds in drive

The Zeta Beta Tau fraternity has currently raised the most money to donate a car through Chrysler’s crowdsourcing website for its philanthropic beneficiary, Meals on Wheels.

Chrysler’s Dodge Dart Registry is an online server that allows people to raise money to buy a new car via crowdfunding or online sponsorships. ZBT hopes to use the online registry to raise $18,000 to donate a car to Meals on Wheels, an organization that delivers healthy meals to people in the greater Los Angeles  area who are unable because of health, disability or old age.

ZBT Vice President of External Affairs Jake Kelfer said their philanthropy event represents the fraternity’s purpose.

“We wanted to be able to give back to our community,” Kelfer said. “A fraternity is more than just partying.”

According to Forbes, ZBT’s account has raised the most money of the nearly 1,000 accounts created in the first week. As of Sunday, the fraternity’s account has garnered the support of 33 sponsors, collecting a total of $2,390 in donations.

Kelfer said his fraternity is trying to spread the word about the campaign using social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.

The fraternity has 75 days to raise the remaining $15,610.
