Men’s golf team lands two top recruits

The rich just got richer.

USC’s golf coach Chris Zambri said Monday that Jeffrey Kang and Ramsey Sahyoun signed letters of intent to play with USC. Both are among the top-rated high school golfers in the country.

“We are thrilled to have two phenomenal people and players coming to USC,” Zambri told usctrojans.com.

According to Golfweek magazine, Kang is the No. 1-ranked high school golfer in the country. He is also a 2009 Rolex Junior All-American First Teamer and a 2008 Rolex All-American second teamer.

Kang, who attends Sunny Hills High in Fullerton, Calif., was among four players who represented the United States at the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in June. He helped guide the United States to a second-place finish and was the top US finisher.

Kang also posted top five finishes in 2008 at the Polo Junior Classic, Junior PGA, HP Junior, Rolex Tournament of Champions and Dixie Amateur. He led Sunny Hills to the CIF-CGA State High School Golf Championship, earning medalist honors. Earlier this year, he tied for eighth at the HP Junior and won the 2009 West Junior Open.

Sahyoun of Campbell Hall High in Van Nuys, Calif., is the 13th-ranked high school golfer in the country, according to Golfweek magazine. He won the 2009 36-hole US Junior Amateur Championship qualifying tournament. At the Emerson Junior Classic, he placed fourth out of 53 players and at the 59th LA Junior Golf Championship, Sahyoun placed in the top five out of 174 players.

Zambri is already looking forward to what Kang and Sahyoun can contribute to next year’s team.

“They will add so much in so many ways to our goal of winning national championships,” he said.
