Corral named Pac-10 player of the week

USC sophomore guard Ashley Corral was named the final Pac-10 women’s basketball player of the week for the season Monday, the first Woman of Troy to be given this honor on this year.

Corral’s performances in USC’s crucial late-season games helped the Women of Troy finish with a five-game winning streak and secure the third seed in this week’s Pac-10 women’s basketball tournament.

The sophomore guard’s clutch late free throws during the games against Arizona and Arizona State also helped her win USC’s 38th all-time women’s player of the week honor from the conference. The award is Corral’s first-career Pac-10 player of the week honor.

Corral averaged 14.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in the two victories against the Arizona schools, which helped the Women of Troy enter the Pac-10 tournament with their highest seed since 2004.

The Women of Troy will play in the 10-team conference tournament on Thursday against sixth-seeded Oregon.
