Trojans honored at banquet

With a season of ups-and-downs complete, the USC men’s basketball team took some time out on Tuesday night to acknowledge some of the best performers during the season.

The Trojans took part in the annual awards banquet at the Founders Club at the Galen Center on March 30, where many of the team’s members were honored for their contribution to the 16-14 record and fifth-place finish in the Pac-10.

Senior guards Mike Gerrity and Dwight Lewis were named co-MVPs on the night for their important contributions. Gerrity, who only played one semester, made the most of his time at USC, averaging 9.3 points and 3.6 assists per game while maintaining a positive assist to turnover ratio.

Lewis, who graduates as the Trojan’s all-time leader in games played, averaged 13.8 points on the season in his final year.

Sophomore forward Nikola Vucevic was rewarded with the team’s most improved player award and the award for leading the team in rebounding (9.4 boards per game)

Junior guard Marcus Simmons won his second Tom Kimmel 6th Man Award, and shared the Forrest F. Twogood Memorial Award with redshirt junior forward Alex Stepheson for best defensive player.
