Gerontology school holds fundraiser for students
The Andrus Volunteers of Gerontology Center held a garage sale fundraiser Wednesday morning to raise money for students in the USC Davis School of Gerontology.
Workers at the Andrus volunteer center brought various items to sell at low prices, said Linda Broder, coordinator at the center. Overall, the event raised about $500.
The money will go toward funding goody bags for gerontology students. The goody bags are given out during the weeks of final exams.
“We have a variety of different treats in there,” Broder said. “We’ll prepare them and in two days they disappear.”
The fundraiser is held about every other year, Broder said. In the past, the money has gone into a scholarship endowment fund and toward free lunches for the students.
“It goes in some ways to benefit the students,” Broder said.
The sale, held in the Cedar Courtyard of the Andrus Gerontology Center, featured items such as a vintage camera, picture frames, jewelry, a Schwinn bicycle, headphones and more.
“It was pretty well sold out,” Broder said.
