Extreme heat has area firefighters worried

With temperatures soaring into the triple-digits today, and near record-breaking temperatures across Southern California this weekend, area firefighters are concerned that wildfires could break out in the coming days.

A fire broke out in South Pasadena last night — about 20 miles away from USC . The firefighters in that area, however, were prepared and caught it in time. The fire only managed to consume about two acres of heavy brush, but did not damage any homes.

It is expected that the weather remain in the high 90 degrees for this week in Downtown while it could surpass 100 degrees in the Valley. Red-flag fire warnings are expected to remain in place for the duration of the week.
