Student stabbed at Arco

A male graduate student was stabbed at the Arco gas station located at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Exposition Boulevard Tuesday night, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The student argued with a suspect after walking into the A.M./P.M. mini mart at around 8:50 p.m., before the suspect stabbed the student in the chest, said DPS Capt. David Carlisle.

The suspect, who has not been located, is described as a Hispanic male between 20 and 30 years old.

The student called 911 from his cell phone and was transferred to California Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Carlisle said.

Because the incident appears to be isolated, Carlisle said he did not believe students should be concerned.

“This sounds like [the student] wasn’t a person who was necessarily targeted for an assault or robbery,” Carlisle said.
