Armond Armstead in hospital

Defensive end Armond Armstead is being hospitalized in order to undergo tests for an undisclosed medical condition, according to USC coach Lane Kiffin.

“Armond Armstead was admitted to USC University Hospital yesterday to undergo tests for a medical condition,” Kiffin said Friday on USCRipsIt.com. “His situation is being evaluated and tests are continuing. USC’s outstanding team of doctors is providing him with excellent medical care.”

Armstead and his family have asked that no other details regarding his illness be released.

“I saw Armond and his family this morning,” Kiffin added. “He is in great spirits and in stable condition. He is looking forward to getting back with his teammates soon.”

Armstead was previously a defensive tackle but was switched to defensive end in 2009.
He recorded 43 tackles and three sacks in 12 games for the Trojans last season.

Armstead decided not to enter the NFL draft and will be returning for his senior season this year. He is expected to start at defensive end. Spring practices for USC begin on March 22.
