Youtube stars Karmin gain popularity

Youtube has been known as a place where a average Joe with some wicked talent can receive international recognition.

Amy and Nick, of the Boston-based acoustic duo Karmin, are the current superstars of the Internet.

Uploaded just four days ago, Karmin’s cover of Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now” has received over 1 million views.

At first glance, no one would guess they would cover any song like “Look at Me Now” or other songs by Eminem, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj. Amy, the eclectic lead singer and emcee, has a quirkiness that is similar to of Nicki Minaj. She has distinct facial expressions and a vintage Hollywood inspired look.

Whatever song Karmin covers, she is the one spitting out raps at lightning speed. Amy gives an extremely clean delivery of each word, making it understandable no matter how fast she’s rapping.

Amy and Nick’s harmonies are also impressive. On Karmin’s Youtube channel with only covers, they can be seen belting out Adele’s “Someone Like You,” Bruno Mars’ “Grenade,” Jessie J’s “Price Tag” and several others.

Nick plays a variety of different instruments, including piano, percussion and even trombone. He provides a great backbone for the duo, making each song unique.

Karmin may look like an unlikely group to be covering the songs they perform, but most cannot deny the skill and guts they have.

After checking out Karmin’s covers, go to their other Youtube channel to listen to original music. You can even pick their next cover tune. Go to their main website and find out how.
