Bob Cantu to return to USC

Longtime USC men’s basketball assistant coach Bob Cantu will remain at USC for the 2011-2012 season, according to multiple reports.

Cantu had previously interviewed for the head coaching position at both Fresno State and UC Davis, but is no longer a candidate for either position. He will remain the associate head coach under Kevin O’Neill.

“I am not a candidate for any head coaching positions,” Cantu told Pedro Moura of ESPNLosAngeles.com on Thursday. “I’m focused on recruiting and next season.”

Cantu is entering his 11th season with the Trojans, previously working under four different coaches — Henry Bibby, Jim Saia, Tim Floyd and O’Neill

O’Neil told fans that he expected Cantu, who coached USC in its Pac-10 tournament semifinal matchup against Arizona, to land a head coaching job soon.
