DPS, LAPD investigating body found on campus
The Dept. of Public Safety and the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a body found on the University Park Campus early Wednesday morning, and have confirmed the incident is being investigated as a suspected suicide.
The body found on the Figueroa Street side of Parking Structure D was identified as the 28-year-old son of a USC faculty member who did not attend USC, according to LAPD Sgt. John Bertino.
The L.A. County coroner’s office confirmed the identity of the body. The faculty member, a professor of philosophy and English, is a residential faculty adviser for New/North Residential College.
The victim was reported as having jumped or fallen off of the parking structure. The call came into LAPD at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday and eight LAPD officers responded by 7:19 a.m. DPS is assisting in the investigation.
Parking Structure D has reopened following the conclusion of LAPD activity.
