Nebraska mother arrested for caging children

A Nebraska mother and her three roommates accused of keeping children in a dog cage attended a hearing Oct. 27.

Police discovered four children in a wire kennel at their trailer. Police Lieutenant Rich Hoaglund said in a statement that the metal kennel was secured by a wire tie with a mattress and animal feces inside.

According to CNN, the suspects were identified by police as Bryson L. Eyten, 25; Samantha J. Eyten, 24; Ashly A. Clark, 22; and Lacy J. Beyer, 20. They are charged with felony child abuse, first degree false imprisonment and misdemeanor child abuse. The suspects were arrested Mnday after police received an anonymous request to check on the welfare of the children in North Platte, Nebraska.

Clark, the children’s mother, told officials that she kept the boys in the kennel at night to prevent them from climbing out of the trailer’s window. The Eytens and their 8-year-old and 8-month-old children also lived with Clark, but these children were not kept in kennels. However due to the filthy conditions of the trailer, all four children were placed with state authorities.

Authorities said the suspects were arraigned Tuesday afternoon and jailed on a $50,000 bond each. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 10.
