Shooter pleads not guilty


Brandon Spencer, 20, the suspect in a shooting that occurred near the Ronald Tutor Campus Center on Oct. 31, pled not guilty to four counts of attempted murder Thursday during his felony arraignment, according to a spokeswoman at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

During a March 12 preliminary hearing, a Los Angeles County judge determined that there was enough evidence in Spencer’s case to proceed to an arraignment. If convicted, Spencer could face a sentence of life in prison.

Spencer, unaffiliated with the university, was charged with four counts of attempted murder on Nov. 5 after allegedly open fire at an on-campus Halloween party. The party was hosted by the Black Student Assembly and promoted by LA Hype. Several students were in attendance, Daily Trojan reported on March 13. Four people, unaffiliated with the university, suffered from serious injuries. Spencer allegedly opened fire after getting into a verbal dispute with one of the victims, Daily Trojan reported on Nov. 5.

Spencer’s pre-trial date is scheduled to take place on April 30.
