How to celebrate Valentine’s Day without going to a frat party

Though it might be tempting to spend Valentine’s Day — or maybe you prefer to call it Single’s Awareness Day — at a frat party, secretly hating on all the people who are happily in relationships, there are many other (better) activities you can do. Here’s 14 (what a random number!) for you.

  1. Watch Fifty Shades of Grey.

Maybe you haven’t read the book because you’re too embarrassed about what others will think, but the thought has definitely crossed your mind. Satisfy your curiosity by heading to L.A. Live to catch a showing of the new movie.

  1. Go to the beach.

Saturday’s forecast calls for sun all day with temperatures in the 80s. Take advantage of this California winter by spending time by the ocean in Santa Monica or Manhattan Beach.

  1. Try a low-key restaurant.

There’s a good chance all the popular restaurants will be fully booked, so try an unconventional restaurant that people don’t think of going to on Valentine’s Day. Merkato Ethiopian Restaurant & Market boasts high Yelp reviews and isn’t too far from USC.

  1. Organize Galentine’s Day with your closest friends.

Arguably the best take-away from Parks and Rec, Galentine’s Day is a celebration of friends (and only friends) via breakfast foods. Head over to Jacks N Joe for pancakes and appreciate the people in your life.

  1. Take a weekend trip to Joshua Tree.

Utilize the three-day weekend by getting a group to go to Joshua Tree for a short camping trip. Starry skies….what more could you want?

  1. Have a movie night.

Are you too lazy to get out of bed to go to a theater? Then get comfy in your dorm room or your apartment with some close friends and watch three movies in a row, or more, if you’re feeling up to it.
