Transfer players join women’s soccer team

The USC women’s soccer team welcomed two transfer students to the roster for the fall.

The additions of midfielders Sydney Myers from Santa Clara and Amanda Rooney from North Carolina were announced June 19.

Myers made her collegiate debut last year in eight games for the Santa Clara Broncos. Myers also had an impressive high school career, leading her club team, Black Diamond SC, to Utah State Cup wins in both 2010 and 2013.

The Utah native told the Santa Clara Broncos in 2014 that in addition to soccer she enjoys boating, running and skiing.

Rooney comes to USC with slightly more experience, having played for the Tar Heels for two seasons. In 2014 she played six games, recording one assist and one shot on goal.

Before her career with North Carolina, Rooney captained the Albertson Elite Fury of Long Island, New York. She helped lead the Long Island Fury to a national championship in 2009.

Head coach Keidan McAlpine is optimistic about the future of the program with the addition of these two players.

“We are excited to add such great young women, gifted students and talented soccer players to our program,” McAlpine told USC Trojans. “As we strive to build on the foundation of last season, we expect these women to impact our future in a significant way.”
