FYF: How to fit in by standing out

Arranging a lineup and planning an outfit go hand in hand for music festival attendees. Let’s not pretend that Coachella’s music festival is the only display of popular street fashion. Located in the heart of Los Angeles, the FYF Festival is sure to be a hub of the latest fashion trends.

If you are feeling pressure about fitting in at FYF, don’t. Let me tell you what you can expect. Around every corner, someone will be dressed in overalls. These people will hold up the bathroom lines because, let’s face it, overalls are impractical for quick stops, but, hey, they’re hip.

Next, there’s the pineapple print. The pineapple has been around for centuries but this summer, it has a lot of popularity. No one is quite sure why, but pineapples are all the rage.

Sunglasses will be crucial because FYF takes place in the daytime. May I suggest any rounded frame glasses? The John Lennon-look for sunglasses is taking festivals around the country by storm. Keep your makeup light—you will probably sweat it off, but try out a dramatic lip. On the scale from natural to Kylie Jenner, you want to fall right on Rhianna.

Some accessories have run their course in festival fashion. Flash tattoos were once a commodity, but now they sit at the bottom of our drawers, reminders of how we spent ten dollars on one sticker. Another overplayed accessory: the sun hat. They were popular at one point in time, but they block 95 percent of your vision, so leave them at home. Oh, I almost forgot—please no flower crowns! I know it can be tempting to throw them on top of your head on your way out the door but they are a dead giveaway that you’re a festival newb.
