Adventuring San Diego: Tips to a [successful] weekend trip
San Diego, the second-largest city in California, is the ideal place for any Trojan to take a two or three day trip. With its close proximity to Los Angeles, widely known scenery and countless events, San Diego remains a popular location for students to frequent, even if only for the weekend.
La Jolla in the Mornin’: After grabbing brunch at the Pannikin or Cody’s, bike over to La Jolla’s pristine beaches, such as Windansea and La Jolla Cove. If you start to feel more adventurous, hike to Torrey Pines Gliderport where you can learn to hang glide and paraglide over a phenomenal landscape.
Lunchtime equals authentic Mexican: Skip Chipotle, and try one of these Mexican food hotspots, which should be a part of every agenda. First is Lolita’s, next to San Diego’s Petco Park, with its signature carne asada fries and beloved California burritos. However, if you’d like to get closer to the ocean, cruise over to Nico’s in Ocean Beach, or Ortiz’s in Point Loma to eat the most highly ranked burritos in town.
Cinema at Coronado: Whether you take a ferry or drive over the bridge, this beautiful island has not only perfect beaches, but also a great film scene. Attend the Coronado Film Fest , and spend the evening in one of San Diego’s most historic and celebrated hotels, Hotel Del Coronado.
Say yes to dinner and a show: From Sunday, Jan. 17 to Sunday, Jan. 24, nearly 200 restaurants are participating in the 12th Annual Restaurant Week. With set prices and menus, this is an innovative way to taste newly prepared dishes at San Diego’s finest restaurants. Participating restaurants span across San Diego, giving you the opportunity to dine near a number of venues and theatres. For example, watch performances in La Jolla or Balboa Park, at the award-winning stages of the La Jolla Playhouse or The Old Globe.
The sun sets; the dessert arrives: End the weekend at the frequented Sunset Cliffs, where locals and tourists delight in watching sunsets next to the ocean breeze. Then, explore Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy where you will savor the many gourmet goodies and pastries available.
