The Evolution of Celebrity Red Carpet Style
This weekend, A-list celebrities such as Rachel McAdams and Naomi Watts dressed to impress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium Jan. 30. Starlets strutted effortlessly down the carpet sporting long, elegant trains of silk charmeuse, glittering sequins and intricate bead work. They also sported lavish jewelry made with the most precious gems and high heels that made their legs look miles long … This is what red carpet dreams are made of.
Many of the celebrities in attendance of the SAG Awards nailed their evening looks as veterans of the red carpet. However, red carpet expertise only comes from years of practice, and many of them have come a long way. Here are some side-by-sides of celebrities’ flawless formal ensembles from the SAG Awards and blunders on their red carpet debuts.
Rachel McAdams
Rachel McAdams looked like she hadn’t aged a day since her 2004 red carpet debut. The only difference was her elevated red carpet style, stealing the show in this sweeping floral Elie Saab dress.
Naomi Watts
Naomi Watts rocked the SAG Awards red carpet looking classy and chic in this blue, flower-embellished Burberry number. This is a tremendous leap from her combination of a pastel yellow ruched tank top and a plain black midi skirt during her red carpet debut back in 2000.
Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria has long since mastered the mixing of fabric and textures of 2001, striking back with a stunning green Julien Macdonald gown on last weekend’s red carpet.
Sofia Vergara
As per usual, Sofia Vergara turned heads in a custom Vera Wang looking pretty in pink. However, at her red carpet debut, Sofia was turning heads wearing this revealing lace two-piece reminiscent of Britney Spears circa 2000.
Amy Poehler
Amy Poehler has become a seasoned red carpet celebrity since her 2002 red carpet debut, looking poised and polished in a sleek black Stella McCartney gown this past Saturday.
