Cherry Blossom fest welcomes spring in LA
Descanso Gardens will host their annual Cherry Blossom Festival this weekend in L.A., a celebration of spring, beautiful cherry blossoms and Japanese culture.
A good indication that spring is in the air is the arrival of beautiful cherry blossoms. These petite pink flowers have a weekend celebration dedicated to them in Los Angeles. The Cherry Blossom Festival will take place on March 12, and 13 from 9 a.m until 6 p.m. This is an annual springtime celebration that the garden puts on. The festival includes various activities suitable for all ages that focuses on the Japanese culture accompanied with the flowering of cherry blossoms. A discovery station, origami and cherry blossom walks are a few of the activities that will be available for enjoyment.
But, what’s a celebration without food? Japanese cuisine will be available to purchase throughout the day — the menu includes different Japanese entrees and desserts, including green tea ice cream. The Camellia Lounge, named after the flower, will feature exquisite Japanese cuisines like portobello teriyaki, a seasonal sushi roll and vegetable tempura. Not to mention, there will be a performance on the koto, a traditional Japanese stringed instrument by performer June Kuramoto on both days, starting at 1 p.m, and Japanese flute music will be played throughout the garden. If you are a Descanso Garden member, admission is free to this event; however, if you aren’t a member you can still attend. Adults pay a small fee of $9, students and seniors can get in for $6, and children’s admission is $4.
This is Descanso Garden’s most popular festival of the year, so don’t be surprised if you have to wait in a line upon admission.
Escape downtown Los Angeles for the weekend to enjoy the beauty of nature and celebrate springtime in a tranquil botanical garden. A cherry tree sale will be taking place, so you can pick up one of your own trees and enjoy these flowers in your own space.
