Women’s lacrosse earns two MPSF weekly honors

With four games under their belts, the women’s lacrosse team is continuing to dominate, as the Trojans are racing off to their best start in program history, boasting a 4-0 record.

With crucial wins against Duke and Michigan, the Trojans now hold a No. 11 ranking and look to continue to build upon the success that they have created in just their fourth year as a team.

This week, junior attacker Michaela Michael and sophomore midfielder Lydia Sutton earned MPSF honors for Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week respectively. For Michael, this award marks her second of the season and her fourth in her career. For Sutton, this award is her first in her debut as a Trojan. Continuing to add decorations, this week’s awards render the 16th for the Women of Troy in total, which include six offensive awards, five defensive awards and five rookie of the week honorees.

Michael demonstrated her offensive prowess in both of the Trojans’ games against Michigan and Vermont, recording 5 goals in each game. She also notched eight draw controls, triggered two turnovers and earned the 16th and 17th hat trick games of her career. With a .786 shots-on-goal percentage, Michael boasts 106 career goals rendering her just the third Trojan to score more than 100 career goals.

Sutton also was instrumental in the Trojan defensive unit, securing seven ground balls and forcing seven turnovers. Sutton and the entire Women of Troy defensive unit limited their opponents to a mere 15-for-29 rate on clear attempts.

The undefeated Trojans’ next contest is slated for March 14 at 3 p.m. as they welcome Stony Brook to McAlister Field.
