The perfect playlist for basking in the gray of a cloudy California day

Every now and then, there are days like this that the sun doesn’t shine in California. Personally, I love it. I think that California has too many weeks where the sun just won’t quit, but I should know what to expect by now. Don’t get me wrong; I love the sun just as much as anyone else, but a break from the norm every once in awhile is a welcome change.

Whenever the clouds come out to have their time in the spotlight, some songs in my rotation get more plays than they usually do, since they have the perfect aesthetic to match the gray skies. They aren’t sad songs — though those are fair game too.  They’re just chiller than songs I’d usually listen to with blue skies and the sun beating down on me. They’re not all rainy day songs either, but most of them are pretty close.

With a cloudy day playlist like this, it’s important to keep a good mix between softer and brighter songs without compromising the overall chill tone of it all. It might be cloudy outside, but it’s not raining yet, so avoid anything that’s going to make you cry or remind you of something that will make you cry. Save those for the rainy days. Rather, enjoy the cool air and the monochrome skies that shake up the usual sunshine with some songs that will make you appreciate the cloudy days.
