The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the area until 7:45 p.m.
“This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation,” the alert read. “Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.”

The University will not cancel Aug. 21 classes across the board, Provost Andrew Guzman wrote in a communitywide email Sunday evening. Certain classes have been canceled, however, and deciding to hold class or not is up to instructors’ discretion.

A make-up date will not be set, and all ticket-holders will receive a refund and a free ticket to the team’s upcoming game against Oregon State Oct. 8.

The University has begun preparing for Hurricane Hilary, which is expected to make landfall in Los Angeles over the weekend as a weaker system, Associate Senior Vice President Erroll Southers announced in a communitywide email Friday.
“We are closely monitoring the path of the storm, and our critical response teams are actively preparing in advance of when it arrives in the Los Angeles area,” Southers wrote.
Facilities Planning and Management, the Department of Public Safety, Fire Safety and Emergency Planning, and USC Housing are all implementing severe weather protocols.
Proactive measures currently taking place include clearing storm drains, monitoring generators, staging sandbags and securing windows, Southers wrote. The Emergency Operations Center will also be on standby, to be deployed as needed.
