Travis Scott stopped by the USC Bookstores Thursday afternoon to promote his “Cactus Jack” merchandise.
The rapper and producer has been promoting the collegiate-branded clothing lineup, a collaboration with sportswear manufacturer Fanatics, with similar appearances at campuses including Louisiana State University and the University of Texas at Austin. Twenty-eight colleges, including USC, have their own versions of the merch available on Scott’s website. Students had been in line since at least 8 p.m. last night.

Scott is officially gone. But there’s still a line for the merch; the bookstores employees’ day is far from over.

Scott has been wandering around for a while now — going outside, then back inside, then back outside again, then back inside again. When he’s outside, as expected, he gets swarmed.

Scott is behind the register signing merchandise and taking photos with fans. There are a lot of people all huddling around him with event staff, and Department of Public Safety officers trying to keep people moving.

“Travis Scott’s got immense aura,” said Lynden McCarroll, a sophomore majoring in American pop culture. “I skipped class for this; you know, there’s only one day, ever, that this is going to happen.”

I’m hearing he won’t be here for another 20 to 30 minutes.

“He should have learned his lesson the first time, but apparently not,” said Dani Jackel, a content creator with Barstool Sports, referencing the Astroworld Festival crowd crush in 2021. “But I think that it’s a cool opportunity. Only USC would do this … I personally don’t give a shit about him, necessarily. I mean, I like his music, but I think it’s hilarious that people are so excited over something like this.”

“It is insane, it is crazy — but having seen what Travis Scott fans are capable of, I am not surprised,” said Lame Wadipeba, a sophomore majoring in economics and mathematics. “It’s pretty cool to see these things happening at USC … you know, gives us something to look forward to.”
