Is Logan Sargeant IndyCar bound?

Formula 1’s Sargeant could be bringing it back to the States.

Logan Sargeant is making headlines again, but this time, it’s looking like good news. Fans spent the past two seasons arguing about whether he would be a better fit in NTT IndyCar Series than Formula One, and it seems as though that is finally a possibility.

After a midseason departure from F1’s Williams Racing in late August, the IndyCar Series seems like the next logical step in Sargeant’s motorsport career. He is already set for his first IndyCar Series test with Meyer Shank Racing at The Thermal Club Nov. 19. This test likely determines if a full-time seat in IndyCar will be in his near future, perhaps for the 2025 season.

While we can’t expect to see Sargeant driving for Meyer Shank Racing next year, as they have already filled all seats for 2025, there is a possibility he could become part of PREMA Racing. Since July, there have been rumors of Sargeant being in talks with the new team for a potential seat. As PREMA prepares to make its IndyCar debut in 2025, this could be the perfect opportunity for Sargeant to make a smooth transition into the series.

The switch could all come down to how his first test goes. As he prepares for it, I will be anxiously waiting to see how he handles this new challenge and hoping that IndyCar will be the right place for him.

I have high hopes for Sargeant. Yes, his results in F1 may have been disappointing, but I believe judging him solely on his time at Williams is extremely limiting. I mean, he had his moments, like being the first American to score points in 30 years. Sadly, the intensely competitive nature of F1 left him fighting for recognition and consistent results.

But Sargeant’s skills are so much more than what we saw in F1. It’s important to mention how impressive he was in F2 and F3 — there’s a reason he made it to F1 in the first place. In his second season of F3, he was a mere four points away from the FIA Championship.

And, in his first and only season in F2, he finished fourth in the championship, with two wins and four podiums. That was also the season he became part of the Williams Driver Academy.

It is clear Sargeant has talent — F1 just wasn’t for him. A transition to IndyCar could offer him a fresh start and a well-deserved chance to showcase his skills on a different stage. IndyCar has a much different framework than F1. The series is centered around a much more level playing field, which could be exactly what Sargeant needs to finally stand out.

Despite his rough time in F1, Sargeant still had a special place in many American fan’s hearts as the only American driver on the grid and the first since 2015. The IndyCar Series has gained significant traction in recent years and his potential move to the series — a homecoming of sorts — could be the perfect excuse for F1 fans looking to get into IndyCar.

If Sargeant winds up making the switch, it will be interesting to see how he adapts his driving style to this new environment and if he can capitalize on the opportunities the series has to offer. It’s too bad he couldn’t adapt to F1, but I have a feeling Sargeant still has a whole lot more to give.
