On Friday, student and community-led advocacy groups held a vigil in honor of healthcare workers in Palestine and Lebanon on the Health Science Campus’ Broad Lawn. The vigil was organized by the USC Students for Justice in Palestine, USC Student Coalition Against Labor Exploitation, Wrongful Convictions Club USC and the Los Angeles chapter of Healthcare Workers for Palestine.

The event was open to the public and the organizers wanted to recognize the doctors, nurses, EMTs, medics and people “martyred… in Palestine and Lebanon.” Held in recognition of Día de los Muertos, the event included laying out lists of the names of the deceased, marigolds and electric tea candles.

“This día de los muertos, we honor the dead and fight for the living,” the event’s flier read.
